"Lawyers from our bureau Newroz Uysal and Rezan Sarıca have set out for İmralı Island Prison to meet our client Dear Abdullah Öcalan today (12.06.2019). We bring it to the public attention..."
The third lawyers' visitation since May 2
It was on May 2, 2019 that Abdullah Öcalan could meet his lawyers after eight years and 810 applications. In this meeting, Öcalan made a call to the ones who were on a hunger strike with the demand that the isolation imposed on him in İmralı be removed. Öcalan said, "Hunger strikes should not be brought to the point where they end in deaths."
Öcalan met his lawyers for the second time on May 22, 2019. In this meeting, Öcalan sent an open letter to the ones who were on hunger strike and death fast, requesting them to end their protests.
In response, on May 26, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Leyla Güven announced that she ended her 200-day hunger strike. Other hunger striking HDP MPs Tayip Temel, Dersim Dağ and Murat Sarısaç as well as all hunger striking and death fasting inmates also followed suit and ended their protests on the same day. (EMK/SD)
