Lawsuit Against Sebla Küçük Who Translated Zarrab Case

A lawsuit has been filed against the translator Sebla Küçük on charge of "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" due to her social media posts about the Operation Olive Branch.

Küçük previously translated the speeches at the case of Hakan Atilla, the Deputy General Director of Halkbank, which was held in the US. Küçük shared her translations on social media.

Lawsuit due to posts about Afrin Operation

The Press Offences Office of the İstanbul Public Prosecutor's Office issued an indictment against Sebla Küçük due to her social media posts about the "Operation Olive Branch", which was launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) with the support of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) against the People's Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin, Syria on January 20, 2018.

Upon the approval of the indictment by the 35th Heavy Penal Court, a lawsuit has been filed against Küçük.

The social media posts of Küçük, which were translated from Reuters and other international news agencies, were included in the indictment and it was alleged that Küçük "propagandized for the terrorist organization by praising its violence- and threat-involving methods".

Küçük: "All I did was to translate them into Turkish"

In the indictment, Küçük stated that the social media account in question belongs to her, but the posts shared there do not belong to her, but to a news agency and other journalists. Küçük said that she had quoted the posts in question and translated them into Turkish.

Sebla Küçük is facing up to seven and a half years in prison on pressed charges. Her first hearing will be held on November 22, 2018. (HA/SD)
