The Law Concerning Amendments in the Military Service and Other Laws and in the Statutory Decree No. 663, which has also introduced paid military service, was published on the Official Gazette today (August 3).
For people living abroad
With the enactment of the related law, the ones who live abroad can benefit from the paid military service by paying two thousand Euro. The age limit of 38 previously foreseen for people residing abroad has been abolished.
As per the law on paid military service, the employees or employers, who have a valid residence or work permit in a foreign country and have been living abroad for at least three years, can apply to the military recruiting offices through the consulates of Turkey in order to benefit from the paid military service. The people living abroad also have to receive the distance military training provided by the Ministry of National Defense.
Age limit, price and basic military training
The ones who were born on and before January 1, 1994 can do paid military service on the condition that they pay 15 thousand Turkish Lira (approx. 2,500 Euro) and receive a 21-day basic military training.
The law also stipulates that the ones who have met the above-mentioned conditions and demand to benefit from the paid military service shall apply to the military recruiting offices or the representations of Turkey in foreign countries in three months as of the related law enters into force.
They will be granted unpaid leave of absence
During the 21-day basic military training, the ones benefiting from the paid military service will be granted unpaid leave of absence by the workplaces, institutions and organizations that they work for.
The collected amount will be deposited to the central accounting unit of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury. The President will be authorized to add this amount to the budget of the ministry in question so that it can be transferred to the Defence Industry Support Fund.
Fines will be deleted
The ones who will do their military service as per this law will not be subjected to any administrative or legal investigations or prosecutions due to their previous evasion of enlistment or examination. The investigations that have been already filed will be ended. The final fines imposed relating to these charges will also not be collected. (HK/SD)
