Six articles of the draft law on the amendments to the Law on Population Registration including the articles that allow religious leaders to perform a legally valid religious marriage and a verbal statement be a legally valid form of declaration for a birth registration, have been approved by the Sub-Commission.
The draft law on the amendments to the Law on Population Registration was discussed yesterday on the Commission of the Parliament on Internal Affairs. Upon objection of some woman MPs from opposition parties, the draft law was referred back to the Sub-Commission for approval.
The Sub-Commission has approved the first six articles of the draft.
The article that allows religious leaders to perform a legally valid religious marriage and the article that provides that a verbal statement be a legally valid form of declaration for a birth registration, are among the first six articles of the draft law which have been approved.

Republican People's Party (CHP) MP Şenal Sarıhan speaking to Evrensel daily's women's issue Ekmek ve Gül (Bread and Rose), said that the the commission passed the articles without taking the objection of the opposition into consideration.
The other articles of the draft are still being discussed in the commission.
After the commission approves all of the articles, the draft will bu submitted to the Commission of the Parliament on Internal Affairs again and will later referred to the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey (TBMM) for enactment. (ÇT/DG)
