Kurdish movie artist Selamo (Abdülselam Kılgı) was taken into custody at İzmir Airport last night (February 9).
Flying from Germany to Turkey's southeastern province of Mardin via İzmir in a transit flight, Selamo has been reportedly detained as part of an investigation conducted in İstanbul. A confidentiality order has been imposed on the file of Selamo, who is currently held in the Counterterrorism Department of the İzmir Security Directorate in western Turkey.
While the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has issued a 4-day detention warrant for Selamo, his lawyers have spoken to bianet. The İstanbul 7th Criminal Judgeship of Peace issued a warrant against the artist in December 2021, according to the lawyers.
The lawyers have also indicated that Selamo is held in detention on charge of "being a member of a [terrorist / illegal] organization".
