President of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu visited the Türkiye Worker's Party (TİP) in the parliament.
TİP President Erkan Baş, Vice President Doğan Ergün, and İstanbul MP Ahmet Şık participated in the meeting while CHP General Secretary Selin Sayek Böke, and CHP Vice Presidents Muharrem Erkek and Oğuz Kaan Salıcı were in the CHP delegation.
Kılıçdaroğlu and the CHP delegation visited the SOL (Left) Party before today.
Both SOL Party and TİP are socialist political parties in Türkiye. While TİP stands in the Labor and Freedom Alliance together with the People's Democratic Party (HDP) heading to the elections, SOL Party has founded another alliance together with Türkiye Communist Party (TKP), Türkiye Communist Movement (TKH), and the Revolution Movement (DH).
Presidential and parliamentary elections, scheduled for June 2023, are to be held earlier on May 14. This was reiterated this week by President Erdoğan despite the February 6 earthquakes displacing nearly 2 million people and destroying many public buildings usually used as voting stations.
Over 50% of the votes are necessary to be elected the President in the first tour. If no candidate is able to receive an absolute majority, the President can be elected in the second tour where the two candidates with the highest votes will be running. (PE)
