Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has spoken at his party’s weekly group meeting.
Paradise Papers
Concerning the Paradise Papers, Kılıçdaroğlu said:
“Concerning the Paradise Papers, [Prime Minister] Binali Yıldırım said ‘I hereby urge that any sort of investigation, be it financial or legal, can be launched. My children don’t have parliamentary immunity’.
“We will submit a parliamentary inquiry. We’ve considered checking it first. Our deputy group chairs submitted petition one by one but this has been rejected by votes of the AKP MPs.
“I call on Binali Yıldırım. Was this rejected by will of you or [Presidential] Palace? I believe this was rejected by will of the palace.
“Tayyip Erdoğan says ‘My friends who have gold or foreign currency under-the-mattress. Invest these assets to Turkish Lira. We are native, we are local’.
“Did you know that some members of family such as your children, brother, former principal clerk, send millions of dollars to a company abroad in tax heaven?”
Judicial independence and imprisoned journalists
“A jurisdiction drawing its strength from the [Presidential] Palace is no jurisdiction, it is slave of the palace. These judges cannot bring law and justice to this country.
“They keep saying ‘fighting FETÖ (Fethullahist Terror Organization). What fight against FETÖ?
“Journalists are in prison. . Mehmet Altan, Ahmet Altan, Nazlı Ilıcak. Atilla Taş are among the inmates. Some of them were released.
“57 journalists have been facing three times of aggravated lifetime imprisonment. The man who ordered bombing of the parliament has been facing one times of aggravated lifetime imprisonment”. (EKN/TK)
