Nurettin Altun, Village Head of Kadıköy neighbourhood of Yüksekova district in predominantly Kurdish province of Hakkari in eastern Turkeyclaimed to have been kidnapped by People's Democratic Party (PKK) has been found dead, shot in the head.
Hakkari Governorship in a written statement has reported that two people allegedly cooperating with PKK had sent Altun a message assuring him that no harm would be done to him and that he went to meet with these two people on August 12 at his own will.
Noting that Nuce TV and Roj News also reported that Village Head Altun had been killed by PKK, the Governorship in its statement has noted that Yüksekove District Gendarmerie Commandership had received a phone call which reported that a person called Nurettin Altun was found shot in the head at 5.40 a.m. on August 17 while security forces were still searching for the village head.
"It has been confirmed by his acquaintances that the body belonged to Kadıköy Village Head Nurettin Altun and that his body was sent to Yüksekova State Hospital's morgue.
