Istanbul 3rd High Criminal Court decided for a Constitutional Court review in KCK case where 205 defendants including Prof. Dr. Büşra Ersanlı and publisher Ragıp Zarakolu are facing trial for being a member of “terrorist” organization on today’s hearing.
The case had notable defendants including Özgür Gündem newspaper editor Kazım Şeker, politician and author Hasan Özgüneş, a long-lasting example for Turkey’s arrest period issue.
KCK case taken to Constitutional Court
On today’s hearing, Istanbul 3rd High Criminal Court registered the motions claiming that the case was against the constitution and it should be reviewed by the Constitutional Court
The review request was brought upon defense attorneys on the hearing of July 14, saying that the case indictment drafted under the recently removed special-duty courts in Turkey could no longer continue the tribunal.
The court panel, then, decided to send the case file to Constitutional Court. The court will now wait for the response of Constitutional Court.
The trial will continue on April 15, 2015. (EÖ/BM)
