Second trial of MİT (National Intelligence Agency) trucks case of Cumhuriyet daily’s Editor-in-Chief Can Dündar, and its Ankara representative Erdem Gül is being heard today (April 1).
The trial is being heard in closed session by İstanbul 14th Heavy Penal Court in İstanbul Justice Palace in Çağlayan district.

Dündar: We acknowledge the Constitution
Dündar and Gül coming to the courthouse have made a statement to the journalists waiting in front of the courthouse building. “We acknowledge the Constitution. That Constitutional Court verdict, these laws will take us to acquittal. We believe that, we will practice our right of defense in this case till the end. We have always won throughout the history, we will win again”, said Dündar.
Gül: News is being judged
Gül said, “Whatever the verdict may be, journalism is being judged here, news is being judged here. We refuse this case since journalism is not a crime. This case has to drop today”.

Court committee didn’t let MPs of People’s Republican Party (CHP), and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the courtroom at the hearing which started this morning. The committee evaluating the application of 450 attorneys willing to attend the hearing permitted to let the number of attorneys as many as the capacity of the room.
Dündar’s son was not let in
While immediate families are taken into the room by judge’s decision, Dündar’s son Ege Dündar was not let in the courtroom.
Request from Security and Intelligence Commission
CHP’s Barış Yarkadaş, Engin Özkaç, Hilmi Yarayıcı, and Tuncay Özkan from Security and Intelligence Commission have requested to attend the hearing on the basis that the trial is related to their working area. (EA/TK)
