Journalist Ozcan Aladag was attacked after criticising Koza A.S., which is a company affiliated with the Adana municipality. Metropolitan Municipality Assembly's Acting President Mustafa Tuncel advocated the attack.
"I will beat up whoever writes against me"
"If a journalist writes against me without consulting me, without asking me what the truth is, and what my opinion is, I would beat him up," said Tuncel. "So whoever comes here should come prepared."
The journalists are protesting Tuncel, who openly threatened journalists. Turkish Journalists' Federation's President Atilla Sertel has filed a complaint against Mustafa Tuncel.
Turkish Journalists' Society stated that it is the journalists' biggest responsibility to prepare reports on corruption and added that those responsible of violence should be judged.
"Democracy is the art of tolerating different views," said the Society.
Tuncel later apologised.
According to local news reports, the journalists staged a protest against Tuncel today by wearing crash helmets and walking to the municipality building. (EO)
