Freedom to Journalists Platform (GÖP) yesterday reacted against police violence and Bugün and Kanaltürk broadcast shut following trustee appointment.

"AKP wants to silence all media outlets"
Turkish Journalists Association President Uğur Güç said in the statement he made on behalf of GÖP, "AKP government is determined to silence all opposition voices ahead of the elections. AKP has carried its operations against the press to another level by infiltrating and seizing Kanaltürk and Bugün TV with police forces.
"AKP government motivated by the President wants to silence all media outlets which it sees as opposition via seizures, threats and punishments.
"We, the journalism trade bodies, will defend freedom of expression and press to the end".

"We know that pressure on media will not end after November 1 elections. We also see that political scene won't change by the end of the election. We are empowering our struggle for liberty of the press by augmenting solidarity, we don't remain silent".
Journalist organizations have reacted by stating that the decision of appointing trustee is "the government's strategy to shape media". (EA/TK)
