Trial of Dicle News Agency (DİHA) reporter Nedim Türfent, who has been detained on remand for 16 months, will continue tomorrow (August 9).
Ahead of the second hearing of the trial, Türfent’s colleagues and professional associations made a call for release of Nedim Türfent via Twitter.
#NedimTürfenteÖzgürlük (Freedom to Nedim Türfent) has reached around 6 million Twitter users.
In the card prepared for sharing, it was said that “DİHA reporter Nedim Türfent has been deprived of his freedom for 15 months through his testimony received under torture”.
Türfent’s trial will be held at Hakkari 2nd Heavy Penal Court at 2 p.m. tomorrow (August 9).
What happened?
Nedim Türfent was detained in Van province on May 12, 2016. The reporters stated to be taken custody over an investigation launched into them have been sent to Edremit TEM (Anti-Terror) Branch Office.
DİHA reporter Nedim Türfent brought to Yüksekova by being prevented from meeting his attorney was arrested by the court on charge of “being member to [illegal] organization”. (EA/TK)
