Ciyoliyas was shot several times in front of his house when he came out with a stranger who told him that his car was stolen on Monday morning (19 July).
As yet there is no news of the three persons fleeing the crime scene. Ciyoliyas's killers left in a vehicle stolen the day before and set it on fire after abandoning it 1.5 km away from the scene.
Sokrates Ciyoliyas was the broadcaster of Thema 98.9 FM radio station and the publisher of the popular social and political web diary Troktiko. Troktiko was famous for exposing the corrupt business persons, politicians and public officers. Ciyoliyas's attorney said, "The police will be shocked when they see what my client has in his files."
Besides all the powerful people Troktiko has outed it was getting ready to announce a huge scandal on Monday.
International Press Institute (IPI) member, the South East Europe Media Organisation, protested the incident. "This is a black day for journalists and journalism." stated Oliver Vujovic, the General Secretary of SEEMO, a network embracing the prominent editors, media executives, and journalists from South East and Central Europe, while offering his condolences to the Ciyoliyas family.
For SEEMO, Vujovic demanded Ciyoliyas's murderers to be found and brought to court speedily by the Greek authorities. (EK/FNA)
