Taken into custody on January 14, 2021 as part of an investigation launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), Pınar Gayıp, a reporter for the Etkin News Agency (ETHA), has been released from house arrest.
While Pınar Gayıp had been under house arrest for over five months and had been wearing an electronic bracelet for four months, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has recently given a decision of rejection of venue in the file where she was also facing charges.
It has been requested that the file be sent to İstanbul and merged with a former trial at the 26th Heavy Penal Court.
The İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has concluded that the trial is repeating, it has closed the file and released Pınar Gayıp.
5 people still arrested
In an operation targeting the ESP on January 14, 2021, 47 people were detained. While ESP İstanbul Provincial Co-Chair Ezgi Bahçeci, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Party Assembly member Sıtkı Güngör, ESP Executive Kerim Altınmakas, Limter-İş Union Organization Specialist Deniz Bakır and Gülşah Polat were arrested as part of the investigation, Pınar Gayıp, ESP Co-Chair and lawyer Özlem Gümüştaş, Socialist Women's Assembly (SKM) Central Executive Committee member Satiye Ok, Alev Özkiraz and Ceren Çoban were placed under house arrest.
