Detained as part of an investigation carried out by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, journalist Mehmet Aslan has been arrested.
Aslan, a reporter for Mezopotamya Agency (MA), was taken into custody in a house raid in İstanbul on January 5. He was then taken to Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya, where the investigation was launched.
As reported by MA, after he gave his statement at the prosecutor's office, Mehmet Aslan was referred to court with a request for his arrest on charge of "membership in a [terrorist/ illegal] organization."
Aslan was arrested on the offense charged on January 8.
What happened?
Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Mehmet Aslan was detained in a house raid in İstanbul in the early morning hours on January 5. Aslan was detained as part of an investigation launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya.
The police searched Aslan's house for almost one and a half hours and seized the digital materials of Aslan as well as several magazines and books found at his house. Detained in rear-handcuffs, journalist Mehmet Aslan was then taken to the Provincial Security Directorate. (EMK/SD)
