As a part of an investigation İleri Haber editor İzgen Gökçe has been taken into custody from her apartment in Bartın in the morning hours today (August 15).
According to İleri Haber, as a part of the same investigation, police raided the houses of four members of the Turkey Communist Party (TKP) and a member of Federation of Opinion Clubs (FKF) for whom detention orders have been issued. Their names have not been announced to the public yet.
İleri Haber has made the following statement regarding Gökçe's detention:
"Our colleague and journalism student İzgen Gökçe has not taken any action except practising journalism and has always done what was necessary to fulfill her responsibilities to the people and the principles of this profession.
"İzgen Gökçe being taken into custody shows that journalism is the greatest fear of people in power who have based their authority on lies. Our attorneys are by İzgen Gökçe and are paying close attention to her detention. İzgen Gökçe is a journalist. She must be released". (EA/DG)
