Journalist Hüsnü Mahalli has been arrested as part of an investigation launched by prosecutor Can Tuncay from İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office Terror and Organized Crime Bureau.
İstanbul 9th Criminal Judgeship of Peace ruled arrest of Mahalli on charges of “Defaming civil servants because of their services” and “Defaming the president”.
Mahalli was detained on December 13, 2016.
He had fallen sick in custody
Detained in Organized Crime Control Bureau Directorate on Vatan street, Mahalli was taken to Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty Emergency Service when he fell sick, and referred to court for arrest after discharged from the hospital.
MS disease and hypertension
After Mahalli was detained, attorney Turan Aydoğan on Halk TV live broadcast had said that Mahalli’s condition is not suitable for detention or arrest due to his medical condition.
Aydoğan stated that there are medicine Mahalli need to use for his MS disease and hypertension

Attorney Aydoğan noted that İstanbul Chief Public Prosecution launched an investigation and issued detention warrant after Mahalli’s words on Halk TV that “Terrorists are annihilated in Aleppo. I will explain tomorrow how this happens”.
About Hüsnü Mahalli
Mahalli is of Syrian Turkmen origin. He is a Middle East and political expert, academic, journalist and writer.
He was born in Syria’s province of Aleppo on May 23, 1949.
He graduated from İstanbul University School of Journalism. He did Masters in Department of Journalism and doctorate in International Relations at the same university.
In addition to international TV outlets such as BBC, NBC, he took part in various media organs such as radio, magazine, newspaper, agency in a plenty of Arab countries. (HK/TK)
