Journalist Hayri Tunç has been sentenced to 2 years in prison on charge of “propagandizing for the terrorist organization”.
In the trial held by İstanbul 13th High Criminal Court, journalist Hayri Tunç had previously been sentenced 1 year and 2 months in prison on charge of propaganda. The prison term has been increased to 1 years and 6 months on ground that the crime had been committed through means of press and to 2 years as it was a series of crime.
The court has not issued an arrest order. The decision is before Supreme Court of Appeal.
Tunç had been taken into custody by civil police officers while leaving his house in Bayrampaşa on February 2. He had been brought before court on February 3, and arrested on charge of “propagandizing for the terrorist organization” in his social media postings and news photographs.
He was released on March 11. (EA/DG)
