Hinrich Schultze, a journalist and photographer from Germany who wanted to report the latest developments regarding the Newroz celebrations in Diyarbakır was arrested by police in Turkey's southeastern Ofis district of Diyarbakır province. Schultze was released half an hour later after testifying.
According to the report of dihaber (Dicle News Agency), Schultze arrived at Diyarbakır from Hamburg to cover the Newroz celebrations which would take place tomorrow (March 21) in Diyarbakır.
Police halting Schultze while following a group including executives from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) distributing invitations to people for the Newroz celebrations in Ofis district, later searched him and made him get in an armoured vehicle.
Police also detained the dihaber correspondent Bilal Güldem who was following Schultze being taken into custody yet released him upon reactions from the people around. (EA/DG)
