Journalist Ferit Aslan's First Conviction

Diyarbakır 7th High Criminal Court convicted Doğan News Agency (DHA) Diyarbakır correspondent Ferit Aslan to 10 months of prison for publishing on radikal.com.tr website the names of the court penal that tried K.A. (16) within KCK case.
While the aforementioned website article was published on June 5, 2012, the prison sentence for Aslan was suspended.
No room for objection, 5 years of auto-censure
The court ruled that the publishing of court penal members’ photos as “targeting of public workers combatting terrorism” - a violation of Anti-Terror Act Article 6/1. It also suspended the execution of prison sentence according to Court Tribunal Law Article 231.
It turned out that Aslan will not be able to object to the verdict. In addition to that, he was ordered to be under judicial control, which will require him not to commit another “crime” for 5 years.
“Şırnak High Criminal Court ordered a sentence reduction for K.A. due to his age period (15-18), mentioning him as ‘a child forced to crime’,” said the aforementioned article. (EÖ/HK/BM)
