Journalist Erdem Mühirci has been released on probation in the first hearing of his trial.
The hearings in the trial of eight people including Erdem Mühirci, the arrested journalist of DİHA (Dicle News Agency) which was closed by a statutory decree issued under the State of Emergency (OHAL) have begun.
The above mentioned eight people arrested on charges of "being a member of an [illegal] organization" and "aiding and abetting an [illegal] organization" were released on probation in the first hearing of their trial held before Van 2nd High Criminal Court.
Mühirci: I will continue writing
Pointing out to the rights violations he experienced in prison lately, Mühirci after his release said;
"Recently, the prisoners have been exposed to arbitrary treatment by the prison administration. From the meals to our to communication, every aspect is blocked by arbitrary practices. I am now released but I still have friends in prison. That's why we can't be happy. Our friends should also be released immediately. I will continue practicing journalism like I used to. I will continue to write the truth".
Journalist Mühirci was taken into custody in Başkale district of Van province on August 21, 2016 in a house raid and was later arrested. (EA/DG)
