Dilan Akyol, a reporter for Mezopotamya Agency (MA), was detained today (April 14) while she was leaving her home in the Muratpaşa district of the southern Antalya province.
While the reason for the detention is not yet clear, Akyol was taken to the anti-terror branch of the provincial police headquarters, MA reported.
Focusing on the rights of the Kurdish people in Turkey, as well as other countries in the region, the agency faces legal harassment frequently, including court cases against its journalists and online censorship.
More than half of the 25 Kurdish journalists and media workers who have been remanded in custody for months in two separate "terror" cases are MA personnel.
Turkey ranked 149th out of 180 countries in the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) 2022 press freedom index.
