dihaber reporter Erdoğan Alayumat, who was arrested due to his news reports and photos, was released in the third hearing held today (May 23).
Charged with “obtaining state’s confidential documents on political and militaristic purposes” and “being a member of an illegal organization”, Dicle News Agency (dihaber) reporters Erdoğan Alayumat and Nuri Akman have been each facing 45 years in prison.
Referred to Hatay Courthouse 14 days after being detained on “reasonable doubt” while covering news on Hatay-Syria borderline, Alayumat was arrested on July 27, 2017. Akman had told bianet what happened after he was released on probation.
According to bia Media Monitoring Report, 121 journalists entered prison on April 1, 2018.
What happened?
Alayumat and Akman were detained on July 13, 2017 and kept in detention for two weeks.
Akman and Alayumat were taken to Hatay 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace on July 27.
While Alayumat was arrested by court order, Akman was released on probation.
According to the indictment prepared by Hatay Chief Public Prosecutor Tacettin Pınar, Alayumat and Akman are charged with “obtaining state’s confidential documents on political and militaristic purposes” and “being a member of an illegal organization”. (AS/TK)
