Friends of Ahmet Şık have made a call for releasing journalist Ahmet Şık demanding freedom for Şık on the 200th day of his arrest.
Sharing posts on Twitter under the hashtag #AhmetŞıkaÖzgürlük (freedom for Ahmet Şık), the journalists urged people to attend the hearing in the Cumhuriyet daily trial on July 24.

Ahmet Şık was detained due to his social media posts and article on December 29, 2016 in the morning hours.
İstanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace ruled arrest of Şık for "propagandizing for FETÖ/PDY (Fethullahist Terror Organization/Parallel State Structure and PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party)" on December 30, 2016.
He is among the suspects on the bill of indictment in Cumhuriyet daily trial.
He faces between 7.5 and 15 years in prison on charge of "aiding the terrorist organizations of Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) and Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C) as a non-member. (EA/DG)
