Taken into custody last morning over his tweets and articles, journalist Ahmet Şık has been arrested by the court he was brought to.
İstanbul Criminal Judgeship of Peace arrested Şık on ground of "propagandizing for FETÖ and PKK".
On his Twitter account, attorney Efkan Bolaç conveyed that Şık ahead of the arrest decision said "Farewell if we cannot meet, don't be desperate".
Previously on March 3, 2011 he was taken into custody in Ergenekon Investigation after the police searched his apartment and office in İstanbul Bilgi University. On March 6, 2011, he and journalist Nedim Şener were arrested on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon Terrorist Organization" and were sent to Metris Prison.
On March 12, 2012 he and Nedim Şener were released.
In addition, he stood trial in accordance with the Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (Denigrating the State and Nation of Turkey and its institutions) for an article he had published on Nokta magazine following the assassination of Hrant Dink and on charge of breaching the confidentiality of the Ergenekon Investigation together with Ertuğrul Mavioğlu for their books relating to Ergenekon investigation.
He was acquitted on May 13, 2011.
About Ahmet Şık
Şık graduated from the Journalism department of Istanbul University, Faculty for Communication. Between 1991 and 2007, Şık worked for several newspapers such as Cumhuriyet, Radikal, Evrensel, and Yeni Yüzyıl. He has also worked at Nokta magazine and Reuters News Agency as a photo journalist.
