Mustafa Çiçek, a playwright, adapted a letter written by jailed student Cihat Dursun into a theater piece.
Yesterday, the 12 minute long theater piece has been performed by Mustafa Çiçek and Cemil Can Yusufoğlu in an Istanbul theater hall with a subsequent activity where the audience was encouraged to write greeting cards to jailed students of Turkey.
In June 2011, Cihat Dursun, a political science major at Istanbul's prestigious Bogazici University, has been detained for charges related to being a KCK organization member. Dursun, 22 and a freshman at the time, was arrested in May 2011 and sent to a prison in Mardin province.
The adapted letter was received by Jailed Students Solidarity Initiative in 2012.
"I am writing you from Midyat, from the lands where Arabs, Assyrians, Kurds, Muslims and Christians peacefully coexisted for centuries," the introduction of Dursun's letter said.
"When I was first let into the prison cell, I heard the sound of a door being shut. That door was not closed to my face, but yours." (BK/HK/BM)
