İzmir Governor’s Office released an online statement denying the allegations that a Turkish flag was taken down and burnt in Kadifekale Military Graveyard during Kobane protests. A claim was made on the website of Turkish Army Authorities (TSK).
“A group of 150 - 200 people affiliated with the separatist terror organization [referring to PKK] took down a Turkish flag and burnt it,” TSK said in a statement yesterday.
Following the governor office’s statement, the army’s allegation were no longer available on the website.
No reference to TSK
The governor’s office statement didn’t make a direct reference to TSK.
“After a thorough analysis on the allegations that a Turkish flag was taken down and burn on October 7 by a group of 150-200 people affiliated with ‘the separatist organization’ in Kadifekale Military Graveyard, we have found out that security took notice as soon as the group’s action was heard and took the flag up before the group managed to do so,” the statement said.
The governor’s office also mentioned that a similar incident occurred nearby the graveyard - an attempt also blocked by security forces. (AS/BM)
