İYİ (Good) Party Chair Meral Akşener slammed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for not bringing up the US recognition of the Armenian Genocide during his meeting with US President Joe Biden.
Speaking at her party's parliamentary group meeting, Akşener noted that Erdoğan said before Monday's meeting that he would ask Biden about the issue.
"He went there to call them for an account. Could he do that? No, he didn't. Moreover, he said at the press conference that the issue was thankfully not brought up," he told her party's parliamentary group today (June 15).
"You see this weakness? You see this loser saying 'thankfully' as he could not call them for an account?" she remarked.
Erdoğan and Biden had their first meeting as two presidents on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels on Monday.
Erdoğan, who has been criticized for not showing a strong reaction to Biden's recognition of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, said before the meeting that he would ask the US president about the issue.
However, he told reporters after the meeting that the issue was "thankfully" not brought up. Both presidents said it was a positive meeting.
"Until Sunday night, all of them, from ministers to appointed bureaucrats, were saying that Biden was the 'friend' of the opposition. They were saying, 'treacherous Biden,' 'cruel Biden'," Akşener remarked.
"And then what happened? It was Monday and Mr. Erdoğan said 'My friend Biden' for the US president ... Here is the latest example of Erdoğan's bipolar foreign policy. Here is the point the 'buddy diplomacy' has brought Turkey to," she said, calling Erdoğan's foreign policy "faceless" and "unserious." (DŞ/VK)
