President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that İstanbul, the largest city of Turkey, will be the "locomotive" of the 2023 election campaign for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).
Speaking at the party's extended provincial advisory council yesterday (December 26), Erdoğan urged his party members to reach and "win the hearts" of every citizen.
The visits aiming to win the hearts of every citizen, from shopkeepers to households and civil society representatives, will continue uninterrupted, Erdoğan said.
"Of course, we do not forget the segments that make up the main dynamics of the city, especially our business people, non-governmental organizations representing various regions of our country, in a place like İstanbul."
Targeting the opposition-led İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), the president said, "They dismissed 15,000 people and hired 45,000 people with terrorist connections."
Emphasizing that the AKP still has a majority in İstanbul City Council, Erdoğan said, "All of your lies are recorded there."
