İstanbul police seize 1.5 tons of marijuana smuggled via ship from Mexico
The marijuana was hidden in bolts of cloth, according to the police.
Over 1.5 tons of marijuana found inside a shipping container at İstanbul's Ambarli port was seized, police said yesterday (October 11).
Acting on a tip-off, the narcotics department of Istanbul police launched an operation, and confiscated the illegal drugs smuggled via a ship which set sail from Mexico to İstanbul.
According to sources cited by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the operation culminated after two months of technical and physical follow-up, and the marijuana was hidden in bolts of cloth.
During the operation, five suspects, identified only by the initials H.S, C.A, M.U, Z.O and M.S, were arrested. (VK)
