İstanbul Governor Vasip Şahin has issued a statement following capture of suspect of Reina attack in which 39 people lost their lives during new year celebrations.
“He came in January 2016”
“Perpetrator of the attack was caught today during an operation launched in Esenyurt. The perpetrator is Abdulkadir Masharipov, codename is Abu Muhammad of Khorasan, born in Uzbekistan in 1983. He is a terrorist trained in Afghanistan and speaks four languages. He is thought to come to our country in January 2016. A 7,200-hour camera examination was carried out for this operation.
“2,000 police officers including special teams were tasked on this. A joint operation was carried out with intelligence bureau presidents in Konya, Hatay and İzmir provinces. The terrorist is trying to hide by changing his flats first in Başakşehir and then close to the scene when he came to İstanbul. And on the day of the incident, he came to Zeytinburnu and executed his plan”.
“He has admitted his crime”
“The terrorist has admitted his crime, furthermore, his fingerprints matched. We are taking precautions to prevent similar incidents. Awareness of the citizens are of high importance.
“Alongside the terrorist, one Iraqi man, three Egyptian women from Egypt and Afghanistan were captured, they are in custody as well. It is clear that the attack was carried out on behalf of DAEŞ (ISIS-Islamic State of Iraq and Syria)”. (NV/TK)
