An Israeli couple who were detained on November 11 for allegedly spying on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's residence in Üsküdar, İstanbul, returned to their country today (November 18) after being released.
The couple were accused of taking photos of Erdoğan's house from the Çamlıca Tower for espionage purposes. They were arrested for "military and political espionage."
Staff at the tower's restaurant section tipped off the police after seeing the couple taking pictures of the president's residence, according to Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency (AA).
Police were called to the scene and took the suspects in for questioning.
They had reportedly sent the pictures they took to a WhatsApp group named "family."
