İSİG Assembly: At Least 126 Workers Killed in Occupational Homicides in November

The Occupational Health and Safety (İSİG) Assembly has released the occupational homicide report for November.

Accordingly, at least 145 workers, including three child workers, were killed in occupational homicides in November. The number of the killed workers in the first 11 months of the year reached 1,606.

Three of the killed workers were women and 123 were men. The killed women workers were working in the sectors of textile, education and health. The killed child workers were working in the sectors of trade, metal and accommodation.

The sectors with the highest numbers of occupational homicides were construction, transportation, agrüculture, trade/office, metal, food, shipyard, municipality/general labor, mining, energy and accommodation.

Here are highlights from the report:

• In all sectors, uninsured workers constitute the majority in occupational homicides.
• The proportion of the deaths in industry increased.
• Most common causes of the deaths are being crushed/trapped under debris, falling from a high place, electric shock, violence and traffic/service bus accidents.
• Occupational homicides occurred in 44 cities of Turkey and six countries, namely Belgium, Indonesia, Iraq, Northern Cyprus, Hungary and Saudi Arabia.
• A security officer at Çankaya Municipality in the capital Ankara, gürhan Koca, committed suicide due to economic reasons.
