‘Is the US a friend or foe,’ asks Turkey’s nationalist party leader Bahçeli

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli spoke at the "Turkey's Noble Power: Mothers-Sisters Congress" organized by the MHP Vice Chairpersonship Responsible for Family, Women and People with Disabilities in the capital city of Ankara yesterday (October 10).

Bahçeli once again targeted the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), which has already been facing a closure case before the Constitutional Court, and said that the party "must be closed".

By referring to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) together with the HDP, he said, "The HDP's closure will boost the hopes of mothers, it will make them have a sigh of relief. If there is the HDP/PKK, our national future, our economy, our social peace, our societal peace is deprived of assurance."

'Is the US a friend or foe?'

Criticizing the US government as well, Bahçeli asked "whether the US is the strategic partner of the PKK/ People's Defense Units-YPG/ Democratic Union Party-PYD". He briefly added the following:

"Or is it the strategic partner of Turkey? Is the US government a friend or foe? The US is supposedly withdrawing from Syria, leaving nearly 900 of its soldiers behind. These are all lies, these are all fabricated, these are all groundless. How will the US keep its own soldiers in Syria after forming so-called land forces from the terrorist organizations?

"Withdrawing soldiers is just a window dressing. On the one hand, you say, 'I am withdrawing [my] soldiers'; on the other hand, you see Turkey as a threat against your interests in Syria and ensure the continuation of the previously declared national state of emergency." (DŞ/SD)
