Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) İzmir MP Kani Beko has submitted a Parliamentary question regarding the allegations that 270 citizens and 60 personnel of the İzmir Narlıdere Aged Care Home and Rehabilitation Center have tested positive for Covid-19.
Addressing a Parliamentary question to Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, CHP's Beko has asked the current situation in aged care homes in Turkey amid Covid-19 outbreak. "The situation in aged care homes is serious," Beko has said and warned that "the citizens of advanced age must not be put at risk by creating an air of complacency."
Beko has also emphasized the importance of psychological support for the elderly living in aged people's homes and stated the following:
"It is reported in all communication channels that 'the elderly die more / they are at higher risk", which causes a serious fear among the old people and brings about a feeling of loneliness and a need for isolation. Moreover, the fact that there is a suspected Covid-19 case among the residents might cause anxiety and uneasiness among others."
'How many people have been affected?'
Accordingly, Kani Beko has asked Minister Koca the following questions:
1 - How are the aged care homes, where people aged over 60 and in the high risk group live, affected by the Covid-19 outbreak?
2 - How many of our citizens staying in aged care homes have been diagnosed with or suspected to have Covid-19? How many of them have been treated in hospitals? How many people have lost their lives?
3 - Is it true that 270 citizens and 60 personnel of the İzmir Narlıdere Aged Care Home and Rehabilitation Center have tested positive? If true, what is the health condition of our citizens who have caught the disease?
4 - What kind of precautions are taken to ensure that the residents and personnel of these institutions feel physically and psychologically safe and to protect their mental wellbeing? (TP/SD)
