An iron piece fell on the head of Mustafa Yılmaz, who was working for Bakırköy Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate this morning (December 11). Yılmaz was irrigating to prevent dust raising at Bakırköy Sports Foundation Social Facilities.
Yılmaz lost his life on the scene.
Claim that “no measure was taken”
According to the Doğan News Agency (DHA), Bakırköy Mayor Bülent Kerimoğlu quarreled with the workers following the incident.
Kerimoğlu said, “I condole the family and all friends of our laborer friend who lost his life in an occupational student which has shaken us deeply. We will file a criminal complaint against the assailants who verbally attacked me. Besides, an investigation has been launched by our Municipality and Prosecutor’s Office into the incident to determine whether there is any negligence”.
Yılmaz’s body was taken to the morgue of Forensic Medicine Institute.
Claiming that no measurement was taken at the construction site, operator of the facilities Şerif Varan said, “Mayor is responsible for the death of this worker. He rushed the work and this worker died. The workers don’t even wear helmet”.
His fellow workers felt fainted
After the incident was heard, some of Yılmaz’s fellow workers felt fainted and Sedat Çağkır was taken to hospital.
