After reports that the Nilüfer District Municipality in Bursa, northwestern Türkiye, opened a "LGBTI+ solidarity center, the Interior Ministry has launched a preliminary investigation.
The ministry did not give details about the investigation.
The municipality's Social Equality Center has been offering services to LGBTI+s for years.
The ministry's statement came after reports about the center on pro-government media outlets.
Senior government officials in Türkiye have increasingly been vocal against LGBTI+ rights over the past years. The government says it's preparing a constitutional amendment to "protect the family," which is widely anticipated as an attempt to add anti-LGBTI+ provisions to the Constitution.
Türkiye has been the second-worst country in ILGA Europe's Rainbow Index for the last four years.
