Photography Foundation released a list of injured or detained journalists and photographers in the past 25 days.
Several photographers, cameramen and journalists have been either injured, assaulted or detained which refrained them from doing their job, a statement released by the foundation said.
“It is not acceptable to have any practices in a democratic country that would prevent taking photos or reporting in open spaces,” it continued.
“Taking photos in any aspect of social life does not require a “yellow press ID”. We can’t yield from our right to multiply or distribute these photos either.”
Press ID imposition
Another aspect that the foundation statement underscored was the police imposition on photographers to show their press IDs.
The statement continued that several photographers, cameramen and journalists were compelled to show their yellow press IDs, and the holders of different IDs were unlawfully either denied, taken away their IDS or detained.
It also reminded that the holder of yellow press ID were not necessarily treated differently.
“It is widely known that several yellow press ID holder were also detained, assaulted or got their cameras broken.”
Unlawful practice
“Similarly, it is impossible to accept that the violence and unlawful obstacles against hundred of photographers and media workers who have the duty to photography and journalize a historically and socially significant process,” the statement said.
It further on urged authorities to work on the elimination of right to inform and to be informed, underlining the need of a detailed and transparent investigation on the culprits.(YY/BM)
