The Turkish Statistical Institute TÜİK has announced that industrial production has gone down by 23.7 percent according to the February index this year, when compared to last year.
The manufacturing industry has seen a decrease of 25.9 percent, and there was a dramatic decrease of 44.8 percent in capital goods production.
Worst affected has been the production or cars and car-related products, with a decrease of 58.7 percent.
The economic crisis is also making itself felt in employment. According to TÜİK figures, unemployment stood at 2 million 995 thousand people in November 2008, but rose to 3 million 274 thousand people in December 2008. (EÜ/AG)
