Die Welt newspaper citing Deniz Yücel’s lawyer reported that Yücel was transferred to another cell on Sunday (December 3) following a detention of 290 days.
Yücel is still kept in a confinement cell, however, he is sharing a common yard with former Habertürk employee Oğuz Usluer, the newspaper added.
Wife of Deniz Yücel, Dilek Mayatürk Yücel on her Twitter account said that she will learn the developments as to the new cell on Monday (December 4).
“We will do our best to bring Yücel back home”
Minister of Justice of Germany Heiko Maas described the development as a “great news”.
“Finally some things are changing”, Maas said and noted that they will “do everything in their power to bring Yücel back home” and will do it “step by step”.
Welt correspondent Yücel, who has both Turkish and German citizenship, was arrested on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” and “inciting people to enmity and hatred”. There is no indictment prepared for Yücel yet. (PT/TK)
