Human Rights Association (İHD) made a statement today and called for political parties, government and bureaucrats for ill inmates to be kept on their agendas.
According to the recorded data, Turkey has 721 ill inmates in prisons and 282 of them are seriously ill.
Association’s statement titled “Take Your Ballot Box, We Want the Freedom of Ill Inmates!” is as follows:
“Turkey’s public opinion is focused on general election which will be held on June 7, 2015. Elections and candidates are on the agendas of all discussion, all TV channels and newspapers. We, human rights defenders, don’t want to be deceived with the agenda. We want to encourage inmates struggling to hold on to life in Turkey’s prisons and show them they are not alone. We will never forget ill inmates in no circumstances. We won’t be dehumanized!”
“Only when it’s a part of electioneering…”
“In general elections which will be held on June 7, thousands of people from 20 political parties and 165 independent candidates want to be a member of Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Both government and bureaucracy only do something for ill inmates when it is a part of their electioneering. We call for political parties and request them to keep ill inmates’ situation on their agendas all the time.”
“We call for 550 deputies of TBMM to hold on for minute and do something for ill inmates. We call for political parties, government and bureaucrats. Don’t turn a blind eye and care for ill inmates.”
“According to the data of İHD, 721 ill inmates, 282 of them are extremely sick, are waiting to be released from Turkey’s prisons. Each ill inmate has a right to receive a treatment and live like us.” (AS/BD)
