Taken into custody yesterday (April 19) as part of an investigation launched by the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and charged with "obtaining personal information unlawfully", İbrahim Haskoloğlu has been arrested by the criminal judgeship of peace.
Haskoloğlu previously tweeted the images of ID cards allegedly belonging to President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Chair Hakan Fidan, claiming that a hacker group sent him the images.
İbrahim Haskoloğlu shared the images of the ID cards last week, saying that a hacker group, whose name he did not specify, hacked Turkey's e-state service and leaked the information. However, it was revealed shortly afterwards that the images that he shared were fake.

While the Civil Registry Office denied the allegations, the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation against İbrahim Haskoloğlu for "obtaining personal information unlawfully."
Facing a detention warrant as part of the investigation, Haskoloğlu was detained at his house in Üsküdar district by the teams of the İstanbul Security Department in the early morning hours yesterday.

Taken to the İstanbul Security Directorate on Vatan Avenue, Haskoloğlu was referred to the court following his interrogation at the police station.
The İstanbul Anadolu Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty has ruled that he shall be arrested for "unlawfully obtaining and disseminating personal data".
Some journalists and communication specialists have criticized the investigation against Haskoloğlu as well as his ensuing arrest on social media. (AEK/SD)
