Turkey's main medical chamber has warned that hunger strikers must follow a medically-supervised program that envisions gradually increasing portions of food intake to inmates who refused to eat solid food since 12 September.
The protocol also announced a medical protocol which encompassed the necessary provisions for health care practitioners working with hunger strikers.
"Inmates must be treated under supervision"
"Prison food courts must revise their menus according to inmates' needs and take measures to provide Vitamin B and other substances such as peptisorbs," the chamber said in a statement. "Inmates with decubitus wounds and aspiration issues should not at all have handcuffs during their hospital transfers. To avoid further complications, inmates should be treated under constant supervision of health care practitioners."
"Peptisorb is a must for recovery"
The chamber added that inmates with long hunger duration must be hospitalized and provided with adequate amount of protein suitable for their digestion capacities. "If inmates have struck longer than a month, they should be a having digestion problems. Peptisorb is must for their recovery. It should be diluted in a half bottle of water. They need 3 bottles of that every week."
