3rd İzmir Humor Festival organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will take place at Kültürpart İzmir Sanat from April 1-4.
The main theme of the events that will be free of charge is “Humor Against Darkness”. There will be workshops for everyone’s participation in addition to bull sessions and auditions.
The festival is going to start with the opening of the exhibition titled “Caricature and Censorship” at 3 p.m. tomorrow (April 1). In the opening, exhibition’s curator Turgut Çeviker will talk about censorship and crackdowns from Abdulhamid II to date.
At 5 p.m., writer Levent Cantek will deliver a speech titled “Popular Culture, Humor and Dissidence”, and at 6:30 p.m. Canan Tan’s bull session themed “Literature and Humor” will take place. Tan will sign her books following the bull session.
Obstinacy Stories
On the second day of the festival, a bull session entitled “A Humor Magazine on Its 25th Year: Leman” will be held with the participation of the magazine’s caricaturists Behiç Pek, Erhan Candan, Suat Özkan, Bahadır Boysal and Doğan Pehlevan from 3-6 p.m. Following the bull session, a caricature workshop will be organized that will be open to everybody.
At 6 p.m., the movie “Obstinacy Stories” directed by Reis Çelik will be screened.
Cinema and humor
On the third day of the festival, the movie “Search Engine” directed by Atalay Taşdiken with amateur actors and actresses will be screened at 6 p.m.
After the screening, a bull session with the participation of Reis Çelik and Atalay Taşdiken will be held.
Butler, King and Others
On April 4, Tuesday, a bull session with audition titled “Protest Music and Humor” will be held with Murat Meriç at 6 p.m. Meriç will present interesting samples in popular music from 70s to date.
The last event of the festival is going to be the play “Butler, King Others” directed by Levent Özdilek at 8 p.m. at BO Sahne. (CK/YY/TK)
