Releasing a written statement, lawyers from the Law Bureau of This Age (Asrın Hukuk Bürosu) have announced that they had a meeting with Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).
It was on July 27, 2011 when Öcalan was allowed to meet his attorneys the last time. Being unable to meet anyone since September 11, 2016, Öcalan had a brief meeting with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on January 13, 2019.
Press statement at 3 p.m.
The following written statement has been shared by the lawyers:
"On May 2, 2019, a lawyer's meeting was made with our Client Dear Abdullah Öcalan, who is in İmralı Type F Closed Prison. A statement for the press will be made regarding this meeting.
"We invite all press laborers to our press statement to be held at Taksim Hill Hotel today (May 6) at 3 p.m. We kindly inform you that no questions will be taken after the statement for the press."
Hunger strikes demanding an end to isolation
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has been on the 180th day of her hunger strike, which she started with the demand that the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan be ended.
Several people, including prisoners, have also followed suit and gone on a hunger strike with the same demand and in solidarity with Leyla Güven.
HDP Diyarbakır MP Dersim Dağ, Hakkari MP Tayip Temel and Van MP Murat Sarısaç are also among the ones on hunger strike. (EKN/SD)
