The Higher Education Council (YÖK) has expressed that State of Emergency (OHAL) Commission has been formed within body of the YÖK and that legal action has been taken against 2,239 academics.
YÖK Executive Board Member, Prof. Dr. Rahmi Er in his statement said, “OHAL Commission has been formed within body of the YÖK. We closely coordinate and monitor the progresses as to probes and dismissals from the universities.
“Legal action has been launched into 2,239 academic staff of whom 440 are professors, 525 assoc. prof., 654 of whom are assist. prof. alongside 654 administrative staff at our universities, and into 97 staff of whom 18 are administrative and 79 are academics at foundation universities”.
1,617 staff members at over 41 universities have been dismissed by July 26 in the wake of July 15 coup attempt, 234 people have been detained at over 12 universities, and eight arrested.
15 universities have been closed after the July 15. (YY/TK)
