İstanbul is poised to experience a rainy spell, with precipitation expected to persist intermittently over the course of the week, starting tonight.
According to the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality's İstanbul Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM), such weather conditions are anticipated throughout the day in İstanbul, with the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms, particularly on the Anatolian side, increasing after nightfall.
AKOM has issued a warning, emphasizing that the intensity and volume of rainfall could lead to flooding and inundations, urging citizens to exercise caution.
Furthermore, the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) has announced the possibility of localized, strong thunderstorms with rain showers in the western parts of İstanbul, Thrace, and the Black Sea region. They've advised residents to remain vigilant and take precautions against potential flash floods, waterlogging, sudden strong winds, and brief storms that could disrupt transportation.
On September 5, 2023, heavy rainfall in some districts of İstanbul led to significant flooding in areas like Başakşehir, where the metro, Çam and Sakura Hospital, and the Millet Library were inundated. İstanbul Governorship reported two casualties due to the extreme weather. On the same night, İğneada, a town in Demirköy district of Kırklareli, was also affected by floods, resulting in six fatalities in bungalow accommodations.
Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this period of expected rainfall to minimize potential risks. (TY/VK)
