Trial of Özgür Gündem Editors-in-Chief on Watch Faruk Eren, Ertuğrul Mavioğlu, Celal Başlangıç, Ömer Ağın, İhsan Çaralan, Celalettin Can, Fehim Işık, Öncü Akgül and author Dilşah Kocakaya was held today (October 26).
İstanbul 14th Heavy Penal Court committee consisting of Chief Judge Cem Karaca and members Fatih Akbaşoğlu and İrfan Şancı, ruled that Kocakaya be deposed via instruction.
The court has adjourned the hearing to March 15, 2018., 2 p.m.
Eren, Mavioğlu, Başlangıç, Ağın, Çaralan, Can, Işık, Akgül along with other journalists, were subjected to legal action for participating in the Editors-in-Chief on Watch campaign of Özgür Gündem daily, after it was closed through the Statutory Decree No. 675 issued under the State of Emergency.
The eight journalsts along with the other Editors-in-Chief on Watch, are being charged with "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" and for "publishing and spreading statements of terrorist organizations" under the Articles 7(2) and 6(2) of the Anti-Terror Law No. 3713.
Writer Dilşah Kocakaya has been subjected to legal action due to an article of hers published on Özgür Gündem daily. Journalist Celal Başlangıç who is also among the defendants of Özgür Gündem daily trials, was the Editor-in-Chief on Watch of the issue, in which Kocakaya's article was publised. (EA/TK/DG)
