IPI Executive Board Member and Cumhuriyet daily' Editorial Consultant, journalist and columnist Kadri Gürsel has also been detained in the operation on Cumhuriyet daily.
As a part of the operation lauched today (October 31) in the early morning hours on against executives and columnists of Cumhuriyet daily, custody order has also been issued for Internation Press Institute (IPI) Executive Board Member and Cumhuriyet daily's Editorial Consultant, journalist and columnist Kadri Gürsel.
About Kadri Gürsel
He was born in 1961 in İstanbul. He started working as a journalists in 1986 in Ankara for the weekly Yeni Gündem news magazine. His main focuses were Turkish foreign policy and world news.
After Yeni Gündem, he worked as an editor and reporter in Cumhuriyet daily, Sabah daily and Nokta magazine.
Between 1993-1997 Gursel also worked for the Agence France-Presse (AFP) as an İstanbul-based correspondent. In 1995, while still at the AFP, he was kidnapped by members of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). In his book titled "Dağdakiler", published in 1996, he compiled his observations during his captivity.
He has been writing a column at the Cumhuriyet daily since May 8, 2016.
He is the Chairperson of the Vienna-based Independent Press Institute's (IPI) Turkish National Committee. (EKN/DG)
